I'm trying to trace my great and great, great grandad's. William Doherty married Mary Foley in 1872. William's dad was John and is listed as a capenter on William's marraige cert. The Doherty's are from the area of Coolacussane and are listed in the 1901/1911 cencus as still living there. William married Mary Foley and the witness's at the wedding are, Nicholas Prout and Mary Ryan. Any help or guidance would be much appreciated.

I am also trying to trace my Paternal grandmother,Elizabeth Dougherty (Doherty). She was born somewhere in County Tipperary in 1880.Coolacussane is one of the possibilities I came up with.I believed her Father's name to be David but there is also the possibilty of it being a William Doherty who married Mary Foley. She emigrated to either the USA or Canada sometime before 1905 and married Charles Coolen who was from Nova Scotia,Canada but of Irish descent. They were married in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania,USA and settled there and had 6 children. My Father Charles Coolen was the first born. The surname Doherty was often spelled as Dougherty being the most common form.I do not know if there were any Brothers or Sisters back in Ireland or any she may have come over to America with.If any of this information sounds relative to any of your research please advise.Thank You,Ralph Coolen.

Hi again.
I have found new information on my G'G'dad William Doherty, he was baptised on the 8/6/1838 in Donaskeigh parish and his Godparents were Mary Navin and John Austin. William's Dad, John was married to Alice Navin and they lived in Coolacussane. Any information on John and Alice would be of great help in putting my family tree together.
Thanks in advance.

Peter Navin showed up in the 1826 Tithe Applotment Valuation renting 3 acres in Gurteenduvane and 9 acres in Newtown North (neigbouring townland - lived there), Donohill 3 miles from Coolacussane . Widow Navin rented 9 acres in Newtown North also.
Peter and Stephen Navin rented land in 1851 Griffith Valuation in same townland ( probably same land) . Michael Navin rented house and garden in Moanoherdagh, Donohill.
A John Austin lived inthe same townland in 1950-2000 . No Austin records shown locally before then.
In 1901 / 1911 census Navins lived Druminacrohey Kilpatrick Annacarty and some worked as servants in Glassdrum Cappawhite, Loughbrack Foilnaman, Hollyford: Glebe Kilmucklinand Donohill . I could not find Alice on www.rootsireland.ie for baptism / marriage. I was born in the parish so its dear to my heart.

I came across 1826 land valuation records for Peter and widow Navin in Newtown North , Donohill.
Peter and Stephen Navin rented probably the same land in 1851. Michael Navin rented house and garden in Moanoheragh, Donohill same year.
A Navin family lived in Drominacroahey Annacarty in 1901 / 1911 census.
Could not find church records for Alice on www.rootsireland.ie The church records would probably in Annacarty/ Donohill via Father Beatty.

Moning Seamus.
Many thanks for all this information and your time and effort in making your reply. I'm finding my family tree is turning into a forest. I had some help from Fr. Egan P.P. of Knockavilla & Donaskeigh, he gave me the information on William's baptism and the Navin's. I knew William's Dad was John but didn't know his Mam was Alice Navin so that was another piece of the jig saw sorted. Fr. Egan couldn't find anything on Mary Foley baptism or her Father Michael's baptism either but said that William and Mary most likely got married in the church at Ruan as she was from Ballintemple. Once again Seamus many thanks for your time and effort.
