Hello, just discovered two additional great uncles I didn't now existed, don't know anything about them. Any help would be appreciated.
This is the family of Michael Moyna (b.@1818), married to Ann McGirr (b@1831). They lived in Augher and had a store on Main street, which was "burglerd" one time. We thought they had 4 kids, Marianne (b.1856); Charles Edward (b.1858-my ancestor); Bernard (b. 1861); and Margaret (b.1867). Except for Bernard, we know where each of these siblings lived and died (but not burial place for Bernard, or the sisters, should be Blackrock, C.Louth).
Having discovered a notice in the Dundalk Democrat about Margaret's death in 1912, we now know she had two other brothers, James and Patrick. These are a total mystery. We have researched the Catholic Baptisms in Tyrone, Cogher Parish from 1856 to 1881, so these two brothers must have been born earlier than 1856, or later than 1881. We have looked at all PRONI death records (Michael and the two daughers appear there). We have the 1901 census of Dundalk, Anne and her two daughters living in Blackrock.
Anne McGirr appears to have been related to a Bernard McGirr, who owned the store next to Michael in Augher. Bernard was godfather to one of Michael and Anne's children.
Information that would be extremely helpful would be anything relating to Michael Moyna, his marriage to Anne, and the birth of their two other sons, James and Patrick. We believe the family lived in Augher, because Michael died there. Perhaps he was married before Anne to someone else?

I located an 1871 civil birth index record for a Patrick Moyna in the Clogher registration district. (There was also an 1878 record). For James Moyna I located an 1869 record ( There were also an 1871, 1879 and 1883 records for a James Moyna in Clogher). To get copies of birth records, you would have to contact the General Register Office. Copies cost around 4 euros. I provided instuctions for the process below the two index records. If you think the other records are likely, let me know and I will send the index records.

Hit the link for the form you want. You will likely get a screen asking for a User Name and Password. (This is a program bug that the GRO has to correct). Hit cancel and the appropriate form should come up. Print the form and complete the requested information. Also provide the information from the index record--quarter/year of the event, registration district and the volume and page number where the event is recorded. Make sure you ask for a copy which costs around 4 euros. ( A cert costs closer to 20 euros). You can also ask the GRO to e-mail the copy back to you.

These names you found, I believe correspond to the entries I saw in rootsiredland.ie, and the dates match civil birth records that appear in their website (didn't pay to see them yet). However, with the very precise information you sent, I will try to request them from the GRO, probably cheaper than rootsireland. My grandpa Charles appears in rootsireland, and also in Baptisms 1825-1835 for Clogher, so it is possible these are his brothers.
Again,a million thanks for taking the time to look these up, I will try to figure out which would be the most likely year of birth and start with those.

My great great grandmother was Mary McGirr who married Patrick McWilliams in Clogher, Tyrone, Ireland in 1857. I have a record of a son Michael born 1870 and Bernard 1865. However cannot locate a record of my great grandfather who was born in 1862. Nor can I locate any information on Mary's parents. Mary was born around 1835. If you have any information on her I would love to hear it.

Hello, and thank you for posting your message. Your great great grandparents seem to be of similar age as my great grandparents, with children born around the same time. Unfortunately I don't know anything about my McGirr ancestors other than what I mentioned in the first message. This is the first time I see the name McWilliams connected to McGirr. Looks like your gggrandmother might have been born around the time my ggrandma was born (@1831). I'd love it if they were sisters, but as I said, I have not been able to find anything else about the McGirrs, other than Bernard McGirr who owned a store next to Michael Moyna's store in Augher. I did find a link somewhere on the internet about a genealogist who had conducted a very thorough research of the McGirrs in Co Tyrone for someone else. There was a mention of McGirrs in Fivemiletown (down the road from Augher), and the name was not uncommon in the area, but it looked like an impossible task to me, since I don't know where my ggrandma was born or where she married, I just have a suspicion that she may have been related to Bernard, and he was either her brother or father. The link that mentioned this genealogist's report came from an ancestry blog when I entered the name McGirr. I just found the link but it doesn not work anymore. I probably have printed copies and if you are interested I'll look for them.
I am just about to start researching my Irish roots once again (after having found the German and Danish ancestors - a lot easier, let me tell you) and will try to contact a genealogist in Augher for help, probably after the holidays. If I find anything I will post it in Irish roots, and hope they will send you a message then. Thanks again for your response, hopefully we will find something.
