Hello! I'm hoping to find the right parish to look for records for my great-grandmother, Mary Maguire, born about 1869 to Bridget (Neagle) Maguire and Thomas Maguire. Mary emigrated to the U.S. in about 1891-1892. My grandmother told me she was 'sponsored by a doctor' when she came over, but I have no information beyond that. I believe she may have had a sister Annie, born in about 1872. Both Mary and Annie ended up in Somerville, MA and both died at a young age. I am unsure of any other siblings. I have found index records on Ancestry.com for a family, some of which say Roadford and others say Broadford. This could be Mary's family, but I have no way to confirm it. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Hi:
Thanks for your post to Ireland Reaching Out.
As both sisters were born after Civil Registration started, it is worth looking at www.irishgenealogy.ie website.
In addition, you might check the Clare County Library website at www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm.
They have a lot of very good resources to look through online: Griffith's Valuation is a good place to start and if you look for the both surnames of Nagle and Maguire to see what parishes both are listed in, that might help you to narrow down your search. I don't see any Maguire listed in Broadford in Griffith's Valuation (1855). However, it is possible that they were living there and you might also look at the parish registers online at: www.nli.ie/en/parish-register.aspx. Broadford is listed there, and the records date from 1844.
If you need further help or have any questions, please email me at: tulla@irelandxo.com.
Kind regards,
Jane.

Hello!
We have learned a great deal more about my great grandmother and her family in the past two years. The Registration District is actually Roadford (not Broadford as previously thought). Spellings of last names are also different than what is listed in records in the USA; my great-great grandparents Thomas McGuire and and Bridget Neagle/Nagle were married 14- Feb-1864 and had 8 children. Three children emigrated to Somerville, MA, USA, married and had several children, my great grandmother Mary K. McGuire among them). Annie McGuire married Patrick Kelly (who was from Ballyvorda) and had 10 children, and Patrick McGuire married Nora Rynne and had 6 children, including two sets of twins. Sadly these siblings died at young ages-30-40s; Mary and Annie from heart issues, and Patrick from cancer.
The siblings who did not emigrate also did not marry. Daughter Bridget died at the age of 2. Sons James and Thomas both died rather young, at ages between 20-30 years old. Two lived to old age - John and Delia - and remained in the same location as their parents in Laghloon, Clare.Parents Thomas and Bridget lived to old age, dying in 1916 and 1926, respectively.
I am unable to determine whether there might be burial sites or records of burial for any of the ancestors who died in Ireland. Considering they were poor, it’s probably unlikely any sort of markers would be found for them, but I’d like to exhaust all research options before I close that door. Is there any resource available I could contact directly to help with this? I believe John McGuire may have been a laborer through the Ennistymon Workhouse in a cemetery affiliated with the workhouse.
Thank you!Lauren
