Michael O'Brien was born about 1840, in Ennistymon, County Clare, Ireland to Bridget Walsh and Thomas O'Brien. He married his first wife Kathleen O'Toole in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia in 1870 so he must have arrived in Australia before that. I would love to find his baptism, his parents marriage and siblings and I would love to learn about his arrival in Australia.

Janine:
Roots Ireland only has a few parishes for Co. Clare on their data base and I got no record when I searched for a record for Michael O'Brien from 1835-1845 with the parental info you provided.
Possibly the Co. Clare library site may be helpful with your search, however, Michael O'Brien is a very common name.

Hi Janine:
I concur with Roger with regard to the Clare Library website. As well as that, Ennistymon parish records only begin in 1870 as per the National Library of Ireland website which has the parish registers. If you have any more information, a brother or sister, etc., that would be great. A helpful hint is to try to look for O'Briens and Walshes that were from the same area as often brides and grooms were in the same area when they married. You might also look to see if you can find a death certificate through Irish Genealogy for Thomas O'Brien or Bridget Walsh O'Brien.
The very best of luck. The Clare Library website is very good for resources.
Kind regards,
Jane.

Michael O'Brien carries on for 7 generations in my family at Licheen, Kilfenora, 5 miles from Ennistymon. These and neighbours and cousins are all descendents of Dermot/Diarmid, b before 1725 including registered as Jeremiah ( the Latin for Diarmid - Catholic Registers are often in Latin). and who married Susan Wallard.
Their grandson had a Thomas in 1858.
As I don't have all the progeny of Dermot, the name is in the family, so is a possible link to yours.
Good luck

Hi Kevin Patrick Murphy,
Apologies for jumping on this thread but Jeremiah/Darby/Dermot O'Brien is also my ancestor. My first cousin is now living in the house next door to where your great-grandmother Bridget was born. In the 1866 census, the head of my household was Anthony O'Brien. The head of your household was listed as Michael O'Brien who unfurtunately had died by then. They were brothers.
I'd like to get in touch with you to find out more about your branch of the family. Is there a way to contact you directly?
Regards,
Paul
