I recently discovered that my Irish Ancestry is linked to Ballybay in County Monaghan.  My great great grandparents William D. Boyle, son of Timothy Boyle and Catherine Duffy, and Jane Dillon, parents unknown, emigrated to the United States, in 1860 and 1865, respectively, according to U.S. Census records.  William D Boyle was born, according to his death record, on 03 April 1840.  Jane Dillon, on her death record, shows a date of birth as 14 March 1850.  I have been unable to find a birth or baptism record online.  It seems the parish records for Ballybay are dated 1862 and beyond.  Anyone who can point me in the right direction  to records within the 1840-1860 timeframe?  I did find info for Timothy Boyle and Catherine Boyle in Griffith's Valuation dated 1861.  Thanks!

    Unfortunately, there won't be records prior to 1862 for that parish. Likely, at some point the records for the pre-1862 period were lost. Based on what you found in the Griffiths either the Timothy or the Catherine record should be for William's family. If Timothy was alive then his record would be there. If he was deceased prior to 1861 then his widow would be there.

    I also looked at the 1901 census for the Ballybay area and there were a few Boyle families in the area. See below.

    Civil registration started in 1864. I looked for civil death index records and found three possible records for a Catherine Boyle and one possible record for a Timothy Boyle. Without getting copies of these records, you would not be able to confirm if any of these records are for your ancestors.
