I'm searching for any family members of Denis Kinnane (born c1813) Killtullagh, Galway. His father was John Cunane from the Townland of Gloves, Parish of Athenry (John Cunane - farmer & labourer 66y, Honora Cunane - wife 60y, John Cunane - son 20y, Michael Cunane -son 14y, Denis Cunane - son 8y, Michael Walsh - house servant). This meant that Honora was 52y at the time of Denis' birth! John said he was 66 yrs then, so presumably was born c1760. This family, especially Denis, has been notoriously incorrect with recording their ages which has made researching quite difficult at times. I believe they lived in a single storied house, number 5. and rented 6 acres in Gloves in 1821.
I think John Cunane's wife was possibly Honora Boland b c1766 but would love to confirm this. Are there any Boland's in the Killtullagh area? I am also trying to find any connections between KINNANE/CUNNANE/CONANE in Galway and QUINANE's in Borrisoleigh, Tipperary. From family oral history I believe there could be a connection.
Some of this information I obtained when I visited Ireland in the 1990s. People were so helpful and I was deeply impressed by the beauty of the west coast. Other information has been obtained through birth, death, marriage and other certificates, mostly in Victoria, Australia.

Great to hear from you. I suspect my GG grandparents Denis Kinnane (Killtullagh) and Margaret Guthrie/Guttery (Ballyvaughan) may have known each other before emigrating to Australia. They were married in March 1853 in a goldfields town in Victoria at St Alipius, a tent church with a dirt floor. It would have been so different! Around 20,000 people converged and set up tents on the Ballarat diggings in August 1851. Another Irishman, Patrick Costello related his experiences as a gold 'digger' with all the excitement and fervour that the rushes produced. He tells of the hunting for gold licences, the 'rush' to new claims, and the thrill of finding gold that 'could be seen' ... 'like raisins in a pudding'. Times then were exciting, but very harsh.

Possibly they knew each other but from what I can see Ballyvaughan in Co. Clare and Kiltullagh parish in Co. Galway are a good distance apart. My wife and I were in Ballyvaughan in September 2014. Very nice seaside area not far from Ailwee Cave and the Burren.

My great grandmother was Elizabeth Kinnane ( nee Haughton). Married to John Kinnane, son of Dennis and Margaret Kinnane from Ballarat. I would love to make contact with members of the Kinnane family to find out more about the family. Thanks Di Clanchy

My Great Grandfather was John P Cunane. He was born in Tuam, Galway 2 Feb 1876. I believe his mother was named Beatrice Jordan. John moved to the US in the 1890's. I am not sure if there is a relation but the name Cunane is very uncommon in the US so I am curious if there is a connection. Thank you for your post.
