Hi,
I am looking for connections in Ireland to the Curranes or Careys who lived in Derreenauliffe, Sneem. My great grandfather immigrated to the US (through Boston) in 1882 and we believe his siblings and mother Johanna Clifford (Cluvane) immagrated at that time as well. We have a photo of Johanna and son Patrick in which we believe Johanna is dressed in widow's dress. Her husband Daniel Carey (Currane) is presumed to have died and be burried in Ireland. I would like to find the location of his burial. I would also much like to find the house/land that they actually lived on in Derrenaullife. My great grandfather spoke of being able to see the bull, the cow and the calf from his house. I would like to be able to visit and stand where they farmed.
Parents of my great great grandfather are Michael Currane and Hanoria Sullivan. Hanoria is listed in Griffith's Valuation in 1852 as head of house in Derreenauliffe. I am hoping to find the location of their house as well as where they are burried
Great grandmother Johanna was born in Coomnahorna East, daughter of MIchael Cluvane (Clifford) and Johanna Sullivan.
Any information is greatly appreciated! I would also love to find out if there are cousins still in Ireland.

Hi, Maureen. My brother, Mike Carey, and I work on our ancestry together. Our paternal cousin, Ed Carey, took a Y-DNA test which matches him with a Michael J. Carey ~1955. Michael J. Carey's 2X great-grandfather is Michael Currane/Carey (married to Honora Sullivan), and descends through their son, Maurice Carey. This match tells us that we are also connected through a direct male line to Michael Currane/Carey, or a sibling of his, or his father, or his grandfather, etc. Although we have not yet found the exact connection.
Our records show different death information for Daniel Carey. An 1874 death record for Daniel Currane shows his death as being in Direenauliffe, Kerry, Ireland. Death was 25 Dec 1874, registered 29 Dec 1874. Daniel Currane, married, 50 y/o, farmer. This puts his DOB as being ~1824. The informant was Gubby Currane, who was present at the death. Gubby (Conner) Currane was married to Daniel's brother, Maurice Carey. We don't have a record of where they were buried, but we can confirm that he died in Direenauliffe.
Who are your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents so we can add your connection to our tree? Have you taken a DNA test? Do you have our 2X great-grandfather, John B. Carey (second wife, Bridget McGuire) on your tree? We are searching for any information on John B. that would help us identify his parents, siblings, and first wife. Might we be able to take a look at your tree?
Of note, we also have the photo of Johanna in the widow's garb with her son Patrick on our tree.
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
Pam Carey Zimmerman (and Mike)
