Seeking info on my GGgrandfather John McAllen 1820-1893.  I believe he is from Feakle/Tulla.  He emigrated to Ontario Canada before 1850, and then on to St. Clair County, Michigan before 1853.  He had a brother Michael, who went to Boston area, and a sister Hannah/Anna who also came to Michigan, and another un-named sister mentioned by him also.  He married Mary Ann Cusick/Casack, daughter of John and Anna Slaven Cusick.  His children were Thomas b. 1850 in Ontario, Mary b. 1853 in Michigan, and John, Michael, Catherine, Anna, Mathew, James, Agnes, and Edward, all born in Michigan.  Ill be visiting Clare in March/April to see what I can find, but any advance hints would be appreciated.  Thanks, Chris McAllen, Michigan.

  • Hi Chris:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.

Yes, there were several McAllen families in the parishes of Feakle and Inchicronan (near Tulla).  Do you have any information that you might have a name of your John McAllen's parents names?  I'm going to alert someone who has some Cusack connections in Derrycaliff (where McAllens also lived) to see if there is any connection to you.  If you have any further information, please email me at:  tulla@irelandxo.com.  There is an older gentleman in the area who has a lot of local information and I will also ask him if you can give me further clues.

    I look forward to hearing.

    Kind regards,

    Jane.
