Hi everyone in Kilrush and nearby.
My great- great- great -grandfather Thomas Wright (b approx 1852 ) and his wife Katie Wright (aka Catherine Byrnes b approx 10 Oct 1852 ) married in Kilrush 19 Jan 1873 in the parish church, St Senan's . Witnesses were Witness Martin Keating & Kate Sweeney. Their residence at the time was BUrton St. Their fathers were John Wright and Thady Byrnes.
They had 3 children in Kilrush;
John Henry 9 Feb 1874, James 1875,
Mary Elizabeth 15 Jun 1876 • b. Burrells Lane
( and possibly Patrick ).
They then sailed to Adelaide, South Australia aboard the "Holmsdale" via Plymouth 29 March 1879 Departure Kilrush, Ireland. Arrived in Adelaide 27 June 1879 with another child , Brigid, born at sea. They later had more children Timothy, James Thomas, Thomas Joseph, Ellen Florence, William Edward and Katie.
I am hoping to get in contact with any family and particularly obtain more information in regards to Thomas and Katie's families. Please feel free to contact me if you have any infomartion or hints at all. Take care. Christine

Hi, Chris,
I'm wondering if your Catherine Byrnes is related to me. I believe that I am related to Darby Byrnes (Born abt 1790) who is in the Tithes 1823 in Knockerska, Kilshanny and in the Ejectment Books 1834 in Breaghfa, Kilrush. He had a daughter, Mary Byrnes, who married Michael O'Shea in 1840 in Kilrush Chapel. I am also interested in your family as we are supposedly related to the Keatings. I know these people were a generation older than your Catherine, but they all may be related.

Hi Robin
Thank you for contacting me. Nice to meet you.
We may be related but I know very little more about Katie Byrnes. Another contact suggested her parents may be Timothy Thady Byrnes (b 1829) and Ellen Connor (b 1829- 1901) . Who had several children born and baptised in Kilrush. They were Catherine (b 1852), James (b 1856), Bridget (b1859), Patrick (b 1861) and Timothy (b 1865).
I'm not sure they are my family but the dates & names & places tie up. I havnt anything about Timothy but will let you know if I find anything of course .
Regards
Chris

Hi Chris
I've only just come across your post. Sorry it's 2 years after you posted. My grandmother was Bridget (your spelling Brigid) Wright. I also thought she had been born at sea but in fact she was born in Kilrush on April 9th 1878. I've got her birth certificate so I know this is true. The 3 who were born in Ireland were John Henry, Mary and Bridget. Aditional children born in South Australia were James Thomas, 12/12/1880, Katie 1887 died 07/01/1894, Thomas Joseph 18/05/1888, Ellen Florence 07/06/1890 died 22/06/1891, Margaret 09/09/1892, William Edmund 20/10/1894, Albert Patrick 29/03/1897 died 23/04/1897.
I've included a snippet from St Senan's baptism records showing John, Mary and Bridget's baptism dates and god-parents.
I hope this helps.
Regards
Kathy

Hi Chris
I have discovered that Ellen Burns migrated to South Australia with Patrick Burns (son) and Thomas and Kate Wright (Burns) in 1879. The sponsor for Ellen, Patrick, Thomas, Kate and children was Bridget Scanlon (Byrnes). Ellen is listed as Bridget's mother, Kate as her sister, Thomas as her brother-in-law, children niece/nephew and Patrick her brother. Bridget Byrnes arrived in SA on the Trevelyan in Sept 1886. With her was her brother James. She married Edward Scanlon in 1878. Kate, James, Bridget and Patrick are the children of Timothy Thady Burns/Byrnes and Ellen Connors.
