Hi! Have been researching above families many years with limited info but now thanks to Catholic Parish Registers I think I have found my family.
Known info - Michael MAHER(farmer) marr Ellen STAPLETON, dau Catherine b1830-1835 Tipperary.
Catherine marr Jas WHITE(b1828 Tipperary) a convict from Roscommon. (Have all convict details etc). They had dau Mary b1849c who died in Ireland before Jas & Catherine came to WA in 1853 & 1856 respectively.
Found info - Michael/Mick MAHER & Ellen/Nelly STAPLETON with 7 children all bap in Pallis/ Pallas Cross, Borrisoleigh between 1821 & 1837. No Catherine, BUT one of the children is Kitty 1829 & I see that Kitty is a version of Catherine!
Also found marr record Catherine MAHER of Pallas & James WHITE 25.7.1847 Borrisoleigh RC Parish.
Also bap record of Mary WHITE 17.3.1849 Borrisoleigh, Cashel Emly Diocese. Residence Dromtarsna, sponsor Judy BOURKE.
I have searched death/ cemetery records but nothing coming up. I realise there are many christian/ surname double-ups in Irish families so is the above suffice to claim as my family??
Does anyone out there recognise these names to help firm up my discoveries, or perhaps someone can point me to other records to further my research? Have checked Griffiths Valuations & Census.
Many thanks

Hi Col
The Tithe Applotments (1823-37 & free online) may be interesting for you.
www.irishgenealogy.ie/ has some Tipp records.
www.rootsireland.ie/ requires a subscription but holds a lot of BMD Tipp records - both North & South.
If you don't want to subscribe I can search if you specify exactly who & what you're after; same applies to ancestry if you havent tried there.
www.findmypast.ie/ requires credit but is cheaper than rootsireland.ie I believe.

Hi Col
I've checked the Tithe Applotments but couldn't find anyone to make a defintie claim on. I'm now slowly ploughing through the Irish Genealogy site but no luck so far - just so many christian & surnames the same!
I have a current account with Find My Past & also free search of Ancestry till end of month. So have been exhausting both of those sites.
Perhaps I could take you up on the offer of a search or two on the rootsireland.ie site for me - that would be really appreciated.

MaryBurkeThere are 22 marriages of Martin Maher in Tipp around1860; 37 for Patrick; 33 for James; 67 for Mary & 23 for Michael
With the tradition being to marry in the bride's parish & 4 of the 5 being male, it's will be a considerable amount of trawling to find the right record for each given that the marriage year is also a guess.
There are 12 birth/baptism records for Michael Maher in Tipp 1800 + - 5 years but none is from Borrisoleigh
Here's a possible for Ellen:

Hi Col, thanks for all your searching and time given. The baptism of Ellen looks like a good possibility.
I agree that it's too much to go trawling through all those possible records of Michael & Ellen's children. And of course the marriage of Ellen is to a John, not a Michael unfortunately.
With the "no show" in the death records of Borrisoleigh I am beginning to wonder if they perhaps emigrated to the USA or Canada?
Perhaps another possibility fro me to chase up on Find My Past.
Thanks once again for your help!

Michael Maher and Ellen Stapleton lived in Drumtarsna (Pallas Cross), Glenkeen Parish, County Tipperary. They are included in the Irish Stapleton Research Tree that I manage on ancestry. Ellen is from one of the Pallas/Rathmoy/Aughvolyshane famillies.

Hello there- very late to this string and new to this message board on Ireland Reaching Out, but I too am searching through the Borrisoleigh/Upperchurch/Drom records-- for my great great grandmother Bridget Burke, born about 1844. I only know that she was born in Tipperary, but I am focused on these parishes for 3 reasons: (!) I have a DNA match whose 3rd great grandfather is Thomas Stapleton of Upperchurch (born 1 May 1816, father John Stapleton, mother Mary Kelley, baptised in Borrisoleigh Parish- cannot make out the townland-- Knockaneevin?); (2) another DNA match has a tree with Bourkes in Upperchurch; (3) several of the families with whom Bridget Burke and her husband are associated in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1860s (St Mary's Govans, primarily) are from the Borrisoleigh - eg Finn, Maher, Fahy. Stapletons show up as marriage witnesses in Baltimore for a Bourke I believe related to Bridget.
I have five candidates whose trees I need to develop for Bridget, assuming she named her first and only daughter after her mother, ie Mary. My questions are: (1) was there a migration from that area to Baltimore post-famine into the 1860s? The Towson area of Baltimore seems full of Tipperary residents; (2) Mike, am I eligible to join the Stapleton surname project, though I have not verified Stapletons in my tree yet?
Thanks, Betsy
