  • Hi,  I will try and do some research on this family for you.  I did not find them on Peter Maddens shipping list.

Have you searched the shipping lists, they give amazing material.

  • hi  christina, thank,s for your reply on david morressey who came to queensland in 1875 as a single man , i havent found any  records of his parents immigrating to australia so i think they may have remained in ireland or perhaps went to america. i have found 4 david morrissy,s on griffiths valuation but none with a  nli parish so thanks marriage to ellen meehan & no birth record for a david born around 1850 to these parents. the birth record for his daughter has him from clonoulty parish tipperary county but no specific townland  i am waiting for griffiths revision records for clonoulty from the lds family centre to see if there is any mention there. i have searched newspapers & petty session records & prison records  landed estates dog licenses & every possible source with no conclusive result .  any help would be appreciated cheers trevor

  • Hi Trevor,  I too  found four David Morrissey's on Griffiths.  Those would be civil parishes,  I will check the names of the Catholic parishes they were in, and you can search them on the new free site,  www.registersnli.ie.

I have a lot of research done on the parish of Clonoulty as I have a lot of Roots there,  I searched for Morrissey's  only a few there,  and no Kevin.  I will go through the local Graveyard records,  perhaps I would find something. Th fact that father and son were both Kevin suggests a Kevin in the previous generation.  Will keep searching.

  • Hi David,  I searched al  the parishes in the Baronies of  Kilnamanagh lower Middlethird and Eliogarty,  to  see where were there Morrisseys and  Meehans  found them in the Catholic parish of Cashel.  It is possible David was reared by an aunt or uncle in Clonoulty,  and gave this as his address on Shipping list. I will do more research on this.

  • Our John Horan (born abt 1828 Clonoulty)  and Mary  Horan (nee Tuite born 1833 Nenagh arrived at Moreton Bay Queensland on the "Queen of the Colonies" they were from Demone Clonoulty.  On board were lifelong friends William Morrisey and Patarick Quirk.

Passenger No. 304: Morrisey, Thomas age 25 Land Grant No. 1336.  Sponsored by Qld Immigration Society (born about 1837 Clonoulty)
Passenger No. 084: Morrisey, William age 28  Land Grant No.1214. Not sponsosred by Qld Immigration Society (born about 1834 Clonoulty)

OUr Horans went to Ipswich (son John born) and Jimbour (daughter Margaret Mary Josephine Horan born).  They stayed for five years before moving to Tootgarook (Wannaue) on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. c1868. They went to live in Albury c1890 where they remained until their death.   I don't know if the Morrisey and Quirk families moved to Victoria or NSW with them.   John Horan's older brother Thomas Horan made an indenture in his will for Mrs. Elizabeth Kelly (nee Morrissey) to live in his house in Olive Street for lifetime, as she nursed him following a savage attack whilst he was working on her farm at Albury Flats.  I'm not sure if this Elizabeth was related to William Morrisey (lifelong friend of the Horans).

  • When searching for the name Morrissey use every kind of spelling you can think of.  Our Horans were impossible to find until my cousin looked up Patrick Quirk and William Morrisey and found our Horans listed as O'CORAN.  Apparently the handwritten "H" looked like "O'C"...
