I'm trying to verify if one set of great-grandparents came from Castledown Parish, Westmeath. I have found a possible birth record for Laurence indicating he was born in Delvin at the beginning of the 1800's. He married Christian Smith, and I have found a record of a Christian Rooney dying in Milltown, Westmeath.
The couple had a daughter, Jane G., who emigrated to the Boston area and married James O'Brien in 1854. They may also have had daughters Mary and Catherine.
Thank you

Apologies for the long delay in getting back to you. Have you had a look on Rootsireland.ie to see if you can learn anymore about the family? It is a subscription site but you can now pay for access over 24 hours. There are a couple of Rooney entries too on the Griffith' s Valuation here
Best wishes

Hi Clare, After doing more research, it looks like GGF Laurence Rooney was b. 1805, (son of Patrick Rooney & Rose Gealon) in Castletown Delvin Parish, Crowinstown, Kellalagh,Killeagh, Meath Diocese, Westmeath County. I believe he died 7 Feb. 1841 in Multyfarnham Parish, Meath Diocease, Westmeath. A Patrick Rooney can be found in Griffiths in Crowinstown, so I'm starting to have confidence this is the right family. Just continuing the search! Thanks much, JoAnne
