Hello from Australia!
I have been searching for more information on my gr grandparents for some years. Now today I have found what I believe to be the baptism of one of them in Mullinahone on 16 May 1830.
Her name is Johanna McEnnery. On her death certificate her parents, named by her husband, were Patrick McEnnery- farmer and Johanna Ryan. On all of her childrens' birth registrations she wrote she was born in Co Kilkenny and one even states Whitechurch, Kilkenny so I have always looked there!!! However I now see that the areas are very close so maybe there was movement between the areas ???
On the baptism record (Irish Catholic Parish records) it states the following in Parish Mullinahole,Tipperary 1830
16 May - Johanna of Patrick McEnry and Joan Ryan,, Balydonnel. Sponsors: Andrew Fox & Cath Stokes.
Despite the different spellings I am pretty convinced this is my girl.
Johanna went onto travel A LOT! She somehow went to Boston, Mass. USA by 1855 - she may have even gone via Nova Scotia, Canada. She married John Mahoney (originally from Cork) in Boston in 13 Oct 1856 and had her first child there (George Andrew Mahoney). Between George's birth - 10 Aug 1857 and 1 July 1859 the family then made the perilous journey to Melbourne Australia !!! as on that date 1 July 1859 another son was born in Woodend, Victoria, Australia. Five more children were born over the years and the family had settled in Deniliquin, New South Wales Australia by 1863. Johanna died there in 1891.
I would really like to know more of Balydonnell and Mullinahole and if there are any more records and or information on her parents Patrick McEnnery and/or Johanna Ryan and any siblings (which I cant find) of course it would be fantastic. I have seen McEnnery written as McEnery, McEnry, McInery, McHenry.
Thanks

Hi whoever, I saw the baptism in question, of your grandmother, and you can do the same. Im no good at giving links to sites but if you go in to NLI,( national library of ireland ) and go into registers of catholic Parishes of Ireland , Im sure you will find your people. just click on the map or put Mullinahoe in the box and it opens the registers, your one is quite good ,some are hard to read. Best, Myles Brady
