Michael and Catherine migrated to Melbourne Australia sometime between 1856 and 1859.

I would be very interested to know if there are relatives still in this area and where my relatives may have lived.

They were married in Croagh 1st June 1856.

Thanks for any help.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Here is the link to the online Irish phone book https://www.eirphonebook.ie/# There are many Lynches in Limerick. Make sure you use the Residential TAB. I did see one listing near Croagh.

Below is the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Croagh parish. There are four Lynches including two Michaels. Depending on how old your Michael was in 1850, he may have been leasing land. His father may also be listed.

Have you considered autosomal DNA testing.

  • Hi Roger

My first attempt to find relatives turned up a lot of Lynch's so I couldn't work out who was related. O'Shaughnessy seemed to have a few different spellings. I also wasn't sure if they would have come from the same parish or not.

Michael was born about 1835 so probably unlikely to have land in 1850.  His father was Edward Lynch and mother was Bridget McCarthy.

Catherine's parents were James O'Shaughnessy and Mary Sheehan.

Any further thoughts would be much appreciated

    Cheers Kay
