Hi,

Michael Barrett and Maria Guilfoyle were married 31 January 1839 in the parish of Cahir.  Here is the record.  The are the second entry on the right-hand page.  http://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000632136#page/16/mode/1up

"Michaelem Barrett et Mariam Guilfoyle de Kafaun.  Test Joanne Barrett et Maria Walsh"  However, I can't find any place name that looks like Kafaun.

I have 5 baptismal records for their children in Ballylooby parish, so it looks like between their marriage in January 1839 and the birth of their first child 21 Feb 1840 that they moved, possibly to the White Church part of Ballylooby Catholic parish.

Is it possible for anyone to look at the marriage record and give me some idea how I can determaine what Kafaun might refer to.  From the structure of the other records in this series, it really looks to me as though that part of the record is a placename.

The marriage record did not list parents, but I'm guessing if I know where Michael was from, I might be able to find his baptismal record and get back another generation.

Thank you for any help.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I will contact our parish liasion for Cahir and ask him to look at the record and determine the place name.
