My grandfather was from a town in Galway, and I believe it was Ballygar, is there a connection with Ballygarth?

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Ballygar is a town in East Co. Galway not far from the Co. Roscommon border. The civil parish is Killeroran. No connection to Ballygarth parish in Co. Meath. Can you provide your grandfather's year of birth and name?

Hello Roger,
Thanks for the prompt response. He was Thomas Patrick Dillon born July 15, 1885.
Several years ago I did a search on that side of my parents (father) and actually obtained my Irish citizenship 'thru grandparents' papers and passport. I was in Galway in 2015 and visited Tuam, where my maternal side is from. All four grandparents were from Galway. I was hoping to return to Ireland this year and maybe visit Ballygar and see if there are some'relatives'. I guess Ballygar did not pop up on my search and thus my confusion and question.
Thanks again,
John Dillon

John:
Our parish pages are generally based on civil parishes rather than Catholic parishes. So Killeroran would be your parish.
I don't know if you have tested your DNA but there is a Ballygar children DNA project. See this Facebook page. the project is coordinated by one of our IRO parish liaisons from Co. Galway.

Roger,
Thanks so much for this information and your efforts. It is well appreciated. I have not taken a DNA test yet, but have entertained the thought and will also check out that link you've provided.
Cheers.
