Hello everyone, I am researching the following names in Tipperary:
Jeremiah "Darby" Hogan m Ann "Nancy" Whelan in Borrisokane 25 Oct 1846. I have no information about their births or deaths.
They had the following children:
Mary b. 1847 Priorpark, Monsea
Bridget b. 1851 Commons, Terryglass
James b. 1854 Finnoe, Terryglass
Michael b. 1856 - my great grandfather also b. Finnoe Terryglass
Ellen b. 1858 Ballyhogan Monsea
John b. 1862. Ballyhogan, Monsea
Michael and John came to Australia together in 1884. Bridget came earlier with her husband Patrick Hogan (no relation), and Ellen came later. As far as I know, Mary and James stayed in Ireland.
I am looking for any information can get about this family as I am visiting Ireland in June 2017 and want to make the most of my time there.
Can anyone help please?
Julie Quigley (nee Hogan)

Julie:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
We have parish liaisons in both Terryglass and Monsea. Since your great-grandfather was from Terryglass, I will alert the PL for Terryglass. By the way, I don't see those townland names in Terryglass but maybe they are local place names.
Have a great trip!

Hi Julie,
There is or was a Pub in Ballinderry called Nancy Hogan's, is the your family?
In the Griffiths Valuation Jeremiah was listed in Kilcowran, I have put the link of the map in for you.

Do you know if any of the Cousins went to the USA?

Hello Margot
I am sorry I have not replied to your message earlier, but it appear I did not scroll down far enough on the screen and today was the first time I saw this message! Silly me. I doub t that the pub was owned by my family - they were very poor and none of my research has shown them owning or operating pubs. Jeremiah may well have been in Kilcowran at some stage, as I have found quite a few references to Jeremiah Hogans in Griffiths Valuations. I have come to believe that this was a very common name in the area and believe there was more than one man with that name. And as for cousins going to America - well its possible. I have not been able to find Jeremiah's birth details as yet so I don't know who his parents were, or if he had brothers and sisters. I have information that he died in 1885 which suggests he was born in 1800, but I don't think that is correct either as it would have made him too old when his children were born. Its a bit of a muddle actually.
Thanks for taking the time to make contacft - I'll try to be a bit more responsive in future.
Kind regards
Julie

Hi JulieQ, I wish you had contacted me earlier I could have given you all this info. as below............
Possibly Darby / Jeremiah’s death record the only one in 1885
It says, he lived in Ballyrickard, this known to locals as Congor. (cone ger)
I knew there were Hogan’s near to The Wash pool this is a small brook with a pool where the horses would get washed. Across the road from them lived the Falkner’s at Mount Falcon. A big house where I used to go as a child for afternoon tea.
In 1901 my Great Grandfather lived near to the Hogan family. Ruins of his house are still visible
Also on the 1901 census the buildings list states Patrick Kennedy he was my GG Uncle, this is the house where I was born.Possibly Anne / Nancy’s death states Mary was present at the death. The place where she lived is Ashgrove, Terryglass. Is this where they lived?
It’s just that there is another Anne/Nancy death and a son James was present at the death. Her husband was a Publican in Terryglass. But he was still alive.
