I have joined several different message boards on this site trying to find information about my grandmother, Mary Sullivan. I believe she was born March 25, 1871. She emigrated to the US through Boston in 1890, settling in Chicago, IL. She had at least two sisters, Kate and Nell, who also emigrated to Chicago. A friend of the family had told my father that Mary came from Ardfield in County Cork, but since I am having such a hard time finding information about her, I thought the friend may have confused Ardfield with Ardfert so here I am putting her limited story out here to see if anyone can connect the family. Her parents were John Sullivan and Bridget Sullivan (not sure if that was also her maiden name). Thank you for any help you may be able to give or another thought about where to search.

I would give you the same advice. www.irishgenealogy.ie has borth the church records for Co. Kerry and the civil birth records.
Check the Ardfert church records first and then go to the Civil records TAB and look for Mary Sullivan births for maybe five years around 1871. Ardfert is in the Tralee registration district.
Come back to us if you have more questions. Good luck!

My Grandmother, Margaret Sulivan, was born in Ardfert aproximately 1883 . She married Terrence Mahoney there. It is our understaning that Terrence was from Kilmey, supposedly very close by Ardfert but I can't quite nail that location down. They immigrated to Waterbury, Connecticut. My two cousins and I are searcing for imformation, particularly with respect to the Sullivan's. We were all born after our grandparents passed on.

I sympathize with you! It has been difficult to track down the Sullivan's! I finally have solid information re: my grandfather, Michael Sullivan, from Timoleague but information re: my grandmother, Mary, has been elusive. My cousin recently found baptismal records for three siblings, Mary, Catherine, and Ellen Sullivan in records from Cork and Ardfield which seem accurate but has now thrown other information out the window! These three parents' are not John and Bridget as we had thought, but rather Timothy Sullivan and Ellen (Donovan) Sullivan! So goes the search.....good luck!

Tom:
Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
Margaret Sullivan is a very common name in Co. Kerry. Do you know her parents names? I was unable to locate a marriage of a Margaret Sullivan to a Terence/Terrence Mahoney.

My Sullivans also came from Ardfert. All four of my paternal great-grandparents came to Waterbury, CT from Co. Kerry near Tralee. My gg had a sister named Mary Sullivan, but I don't think she ever married or left Ireland. I believe many of them came to Waterbury to work at the Brass Mill and lived with family or friends from Ireland.

There is a birth record for Terence Mahony of Kilmoyley: https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634236#page/33/mode/1up
It's at the bottom of the page.

Its been a while since I've had time to jump on. That is definitley my great garndfather Terrence in the Baptismal Registry.
We heard stories that he had a brother and the listing that you provided shows exactly that.
