Hello...I am a new member here at Ireland xo....

My name is Robert Ireland. I am researching my paternal ancestry. My dad's paper trail ends/begins in county Armagh, with the emigration of William Ireland (born around 1800-1805). He emigrated to Ontario Canada in the 1820's and married a Francis McManus (1810-1888 from Cavan Ireland) in Niagara, Ontario, in 1829. Tithe Books for county Armagh show a number of 'Irelands' in parish Derrynoose in the early 1800's.
I am planning a trip to Armagh late in June. I am curious to know if you have any knowledge of the surname Ireland surviving in your parish. If it is significant, I believe my Irelands were Presbyterians.
Thank you for consideration.
Robert Ireland

  • I’d be inclined to write to the Ministers at the 2 Presbyterian churches in Keady and ask them if they know of any Irelands in their current congregations:

I looked in the current phone book for that area (postcode BT60) but no Irelands are listed.

  • In Bassett's Ireland 1888, the following are shown, in Lislea several Irelands, in Lisnadill, more including a Robert Ireland, and in Lurgan, Ireland Bros. Grain merchants.   might be of some help.   Good luck.
