Hello, im looking for information on the family of owen stapleton. Owen came out to Australia as a convict (sailing from Cork) on the ship Hoogley in 1825 aged about 38. Soon after he applied to the colonial secretary for free passage for his wife Mary Norris and their six children. I know Judith Stapleton emigrated (she is my great great grandmother). Also Richard and possibly Margaret. I cant find if any other family immigrated. In those days after seven years separation Convicts were allowed, even encouraged to remarry which he did in 1835. So Im assuming Mary didnt make it out here. What I would like to find out is what happened to Mary and also the names of Owen Stapleton and Mary Norris's parents if possible.
Owens crime was horse theft. Im curious whether there is any transcript of the trial.

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I assume you have information that points to Ballylooby RC parish. We do not have a parish liaison in that parish but we do have a parish liaison in the nearby parish of Caher. I willl alert him about your message.

Mary Stapleton is listed in the Tithe Applotment records in 1827 and another so it must have been the year before..
when I looked at the actual page in the book, wow... John Norry's name appears on the page! I suppose as she was a woman on her own a male had to add their name. was John her brother or father?
