My paternal grandmother's mother was Mary Kanavey, and it is her parents, Michael Kanavey 1841 & Bridget Murphy 1836, that I have traced to Clonbur. I believe his father was also Michael, and her parents were Patrick and Bridget Murphy.
Michael & Bridget Kanavey had eight children from 1864-1881. They immigrated to Plains, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, USA, sometime between 1881 and his death in 1894.
Their children recorded that they had been born in Ardarrie or Clonbur. I found the following birth records:
Mary 29 Apr 1860 Clonbur
John J. 3 Dec 1862 Clonbur
Bridget 30 Jul 1865 Ardane
Biddy 30 apr 1867 Innishdavee, Clonbur
Michael 27 Aug 1870 Ardane
James (haven't found) 1875
Ellen Feb 1873 Ardane
Patrick 11 Mar 1878 Ardane
Cath/Katie 1881 Clonbur
Does anyone know if Cavanagh is interchangable with Kanavey or how they might be linked?

I think that I have previously being in touch with you re your Kinneavey surname. Either way I dont think there is any connection between the Kavanagh & Kinneavey ( in what ever spelling ) surnames ! There is instances of the name in the Oughterard area at present , and I am fairly certain that I have come across instances of the name in the Clonbur district as well. It is an uncommon name .

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
For the short time, I researched your question I would agree with bishboy that Cavanagh and Kinneavy are not interchangeable.
I found two sites. The first is from John Grenham and shows hwere he located records for variants of Kinneavy. The second site if you look under Kinnawe seems to indicate a connection between Kinneavy and Forde which is also a Galway surname.

Hello Jan,
starting with the information you gave above, I added your keanavy family to the "Clonbur Familes" tree on Ancestry. It reaches quite far in Wilked-Barre and other places of the US. If you'd like an invitation to this comprehensive tree, or if anyone else would like an invitation, just give me an email address to which to send it. You may want to obfuscate your email address a little bit so the email-address harvesting robots that spammers use doesn't find it.

Hello Robert,
Thank you for sharing your Clonbur Family Tree with me. I see there are many names that ended up in Eastern Pennsylvania.
In looking for my paternal GM, I had to look at everyone around her, and have many relations in my Boyle tree from Lackawanna and Luzerne counties. You may find something helpful.
I appreciate your suggestion to obfuscate my email address. How would you do that?

Hi,
My Gg-grandfather was Stephen Kannavy (b. 1860s Ireland) - his daughter changed the spelling in his American records. was Kinneavy. His family is from Oughterard and Inchagoill. His father was Martin and his mother was Katherine Philbin. He too moved to the Luzerne PA area. I’m guessing that we are all related, I know I have a dna match to RKeyes. He married Margaret Murphy in PA and his children were Catherine, Julia, Mary, and Thomas. I noticed that pretty much each Kinneavy in the tree named their children similarly. It makes it confusing when sifting thru records. If anyone fits me in that awesome. I know Martin’s father’s name is Denis m. Bridget/Catherine Cavanaugh and Denis’s father’s name was Denys m. Mary Lydon. That’s as much as I have.
Thanks,
Julia B.
