My ancestor Mary Marrinan, father Michael, came to Hobart Town, Tasmania with a group of other Orphan Girls from the Kilrush Workhouse on the Beulah in 1851. I need to find the name of the Village/Town she came from, and am wondering if there are any entry records I could search for from the Workhouse. Have already looked at the Guardian Record Books, and have no luck, and note two Marrinan deaths, but no other information. Suggestions for other searches would be welcome. I have learned that there are Michael Marrinan's in Clare today, have done my dna, but until we can find a place name for her origins as you would already know, finding birth, Mother's name, and anything else about her before she came to Australia is stalled. She is listed on Ship's manifest as age 18 on one page and 20 on another, so that would make a Baptism record search around 1830 I would think. Even a list of RC parishes around Kilrush would be helpful.
Thank you, Carollyn

Informant 1:Edward McAteer Sponsor 2 /
Informant 2:Mary Ann McClelandThe National Library of Ireland hasfree access to the R C registers but Kilrush records only start in 1841!
If you go to that site http://registers.nli.ie/, and type Kilrush in the parish search and select one of the 3 options that come up you'll get a map showing the surrounding parishes.

Carollyn/Col:
The records for Kilrush (St. Senan's) in Clare start in 1827 http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0808 ( Col: You picked up Kilrush in Wexford). The Kilrush records are not on Roots Ireland so I would suggest you manually scan the register. I looked at the register and the records are very clear so you should not have any problems finding your ancestors if they were baptized in that parish 1827 or later.
I will also alert our parish liaison for Kilrush that you have posted a message.

Dear Carolyn:
You might check out the Clare Library website which may some records for the Orphan Scheme that operated from Kilrush Workhouse. Their website is listed below:
http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm
In addition, the website has great online resources that you will find useful for your Marrinan family research.
If you need further assistance, please let me know.
Kind regards,
Jane.
