I am searching for information on the family of my GGGGrandmother, Johanna White, who was married to William Mithie/Mitty in Kilmore RC church in the early 1800s. I have found her marriage record and some of the baptismal records of her children who were baptised in Our Lady's Island parish, Churchtown, Wexford. She is sometimes listed as Peggy or Judy in the records. But her marriage record and her gravestone in Carne, Churchtown Cemetery have her name as Johanna. The Mitty name seems to have disappeared from Ireland. Johanna's daughter, Ellen, who is my GGGrandmother immigrated to NewYork City sometime before 1858. She married James Bulger, a blacksmith, either in NYC or perhaps Ireland. Cannot find any trace of Ellen in the church records. Have always thought there must be White family still in Ireland or elsewhere. White is such a common name so thought perhaps a posting here would help locate somweone related to Johanna. Thought I had found her baptismal record at the Kilmore church but think it is a record for a male child, John!. It is written in Latin so names very close. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

I was unable to find a marriage record for Ellen but Bolger/Bulger is a Wexford surname.

Below are links to two Miity households in the 1911 census. Plus a link to the 28 Whites in the Lady's Island DED.

Let me know if youu have any questions.

  • Roger,

Thank you for the information. My Johanna White was born appx 1793 and was married in the Kilmore RC church in 1820. I do have a copy of the marriage entry from the church. The Mittys are probably all related to me, sadly no one left in that family. However, I will take a look at the Ladys Island White families in the census and see if that leads anywhere. Thanks again.

    Best,

    EIleen
