Patrick Dinan and wife, Ann Myers Dinan, emigrated to America in 1837. Both were born in 1802. They took their two children, Mary, born in 1829; and John, born in 1831. I have found 2, maybe 3, Patrick Dinans on tax rolls in Kerry prior to the departure of the family, possibly before marrying Ann Myers. I have not found any record of the marriage; of the births of the two children; of Ann Myers; or Patrick's parents. This is likely difficult since I have not narrowed down a parish as there are possibly different Patrick Dinans. One seems to have lived on or near the western coast of Kerry and another seemed to be in the northwestern part of the county. My biggest find was the arrivals in New York from Ireland. Patrick was listed as a laborer and Ann as a servant. John would be my g-g-g-grandfather and settled in Chicago.

I searched www.irishgenealogy.ie for any possible records for Patrick and Ann but had no success. I also searched under Dineen.

You may also want to consider autosomal DNA testing.

Sorry, I thought I posted a thanks and reply but I see no record of it. I think I made a mistake and that I found two Patrick Dinan (s) listed in tax recrds but they were for County Clare. I think I was hearing the echo of family legends and where people were from. I also have a great-great grandfather John O'Leary and my mother might have said he was from Kerry. But I have some records from Cook County, Chicago, and his daughters reported that actually he was from Cork, He likely came from Middleport. So, I will re-report that Patrick Dinan came from Clare.
