Hello!

I am looking for information on six families that are all connected… DWYER (possibly O’DWYER) from Limerick; MCMAHON from Ennis, Clare; REEDY (possibly REDDY / REIDY) from Ennis, Clare; DILLON (details unknown); SILVER (details unknown); O’BRIEN (details unknown).

Timothy Dwyer (date of birth/death unknown) married Mary Dillon (date of birth/death unknown) in February 1827 in Mannister, Ireland.  I believe they had 8 children, one of which was Edward Dwyer (1832 Limerick – 1902 Australia) who immigrated to Australia and married Mary Reedy (1853 – 1921) and had 9 children.  I am unsure as to whether any of the other children remained in Ireland or immigrated to Australia or elsewhere.

Mary Reedy’s parents are Patrick Reedy (Ennis, Clare – 1891 Australia) and Margaret McMahon (Ennis, Clare – 1912 Australia).

Patrick Reedy’s parents are Thomas Reedy and Bridget Silver; I have no information on them.

Margaret McMahon’s parents are Michael McMahon and Sarah O’Brien; I have no information on them.

I have very little information on Timothy Dwyer and Mary Dillon.  I believe it is possible that in Ireland they may have gone by the surname O’Dwyer and at some stage dropped the O to just become Dwyer.

Any information that could help me out would be most appreciated.

Thanks :)

  • Dear Elephantsneverforget:

Thank you for your post to the Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome to the site!

If you have not already done so, please check out the Clare Library website which has a number of great resources that may help you narrow down some of your ancestor's parishes.

    The link is below:

    http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm

In addition, the Ennis Parish records are available online through Ennis Parish with many thanks to the hard work of the Clare Roots Society:

The surname Silver is not a common surname in County Clare.  I note that there was  a Judith Silver mentioned in Griffith's Valuation living in Drumaneen in Inchicronan parish (today known as Crusheen parish).

If you need further assistance, please let us know.

Thank you for your interest in Ireland Reaching Out!

    Kind regards,

    Jane.

  • Hi Patricia:

Would you create a new message board post for your McMahon family?  That way it won't get lost as it has in this thread.  You can also create an Ancestor profile if you wish.

There may be further information for the McMahon/Moroney family out there.  If you post a query, I will take a look at it for you and see what I can find.

    All the best,

    Jane
