Mary Alice McGovern was my 2x great grandmother. She married John McDonald on 1 June 1878 at Kill townland, Crosserlough civil parish, Cavan County. I have no record of her birth, but assume it was in that area. She and John moved to Scotland, and ran an inn at Falkland, Stirlingshire for some years. My grandmother, Mary Alice McDonald was born in Falkland in 1881. I've been trying to find some record of my 2x great grandmother for years, but so far haven't had any luck. Does her name fit with any families in that area?

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
I checked Roots Ireland and there were many Mary McGover/Magauran baptismal records but none in Crosserlough RC. You mention an 1878 marriage. Can you share a copy of the marriage record? I don't see a record on Roots Ireland and I also could not find the civil marriage record on www.irishgenealogy.ie The civil record would show her father's name.

I don't have the actual marriage certificate, the date, place, etc. was written on my grandmother's birth certificate, along with the names John McDonald and Mary Alice McGovern. I've tried Roots Ireland, PRONI and other sites, plus enlisted the help of a searcher from The Latter-Day Saints church. I emailed a priest at a church in Kill (or near there) who did quite a bit of searching for me. But with no results. So I'm just hoping to find someone — anyone — with my great-grandmother in their tree. She must exist somewhere! I have a photo of her! She was, therefore I am, so to speak. But there seems to be no record of her. I've tried nearby counties as well.
Thank you for answering my call, anyway. I'll just keep putting it out there.

You may want to consider autosomal DNA testing.
