My great-great grandparents Thomas Egan (Eagan) and Bridget Hogan were married on Feb. 15, 1857 in O'Callaghan's Mills, County Clare.  I have attached the registry information.  I cannot read the names of the places that they were each from.  I am hoping that someone familiar with the area will be able to tell me what the place names are.  Thank you.

  • Hi,

I would say Elmhill and Cloncoole (Cloncool).

  • Hi Janeteo

I have just found your post which has raised my curiosity as it maybe (i repeat maybe) a very important missing link in my Irish connection.

Whilst I live in Australia, my Hogan family ancestors came to Australia in the period of about 1850/60 and all of the siblings have been accounted for here except Bridget Hogan the edlest of the family.

All I know (believe) is that she was born in 1833 in Rath,County Clare and this is the extent of my acknowledge except for a recording on her mother Ellen's death registration in 1892 which notes Bridget as being "about 60" and then listing the others in various ages which are contradicted in other places.

Besides Briget, her father's fate has also proven elusve and in the past I have enlisted the services of the Clare Heritage and Genealogy Society and the County Clare Library but records on both have been disappointng.

I am hoping that we may share the same ancestor, your great great grandmother and my 2 x great aunt.

    Regards

  • Hi Bimini,   Sorry to disappoint but after my cousin and I did some further research, we determined that we had the wrong Thomas Egan.   Our great-grandfather Thomas was the son of Thomas Egan and Ellen O'Brien, not Bridget Hogan.  Good luck with your research !
