Hello Ireland, my gg-grandmother, Catherine "Kitty" Nelson, in company with many other orphan girls from the district, departed the Scariff Poorhouse in 1851. They travelled to England where they boarded the "Calcutta", bound for VDL. There she married a fellow countryman, John Quinn, earlier sent from Dublin. According to her departure and arrival ages Kitty should have been born around 1828. I am seeking more precise birthplace, birth date and parent information. I saw this when looking for Nelson. A John Nelson in the Parish of Tomgraney.

This may be a brother as it was mainly girls that were sent away.

Hello Margot, thank you so much for your reponse. I have only just this evening come across it. Further to the details in my original query, on My Heritage I share some dna with descendants of a Margaret Nelson who arrived in Sydney aboard the Thomas Arbuthnot in February 1850. Her NSW arrival entry records her age as 16 years and thus an 1833/4 birth in (native place) Clonrich/Clonrush to John and Mary Nelson. It would not be too much of a leap to suggest Margaret Nelson and my Kitty Nelson (arrived Hobart 02/11/1851) were perhaps sisters, or possibly cousins. Unfortunately my dna matches have not responded to my email approaches so do not have any local corroboration. Very best wishes, John
