GRIFFIN ~ MCCARTHY ~ SHANAHAN

My MCCARTHY timeline is as such:

My father, David Joseph McCarthy (1915-1991) born in N. Bergen, Hudson Co., New Jersey, USA married Charlotte Rose RAWLINS (1926-2003), is the son of,

David Francis McCarthy (1883-1955) born in Manhattan, New York married Sophia "Emma" LUTZ, is the son of,

Charles McCarthy (1850-1903) baptized in Mahoonagh RC Parish, migrated to New York 1879 with brotkeer, Edward (1848-1915) and wife, Johanna OHARA.  Charles married Elizabeth EDWARDS dau of Daniel EDWARDS and Johanna FOLEY, son of, 

David McCarthy (1813-????) baptized in Mahoonagh RC Parish married Margaret SHANAHAN of Ballagh, Killeedy Civil Parish, is the son of,

Eugene "Owen" McCarthy and Johanna GRIFFIN.  

Whilst going through graveyards during my visit, I did find an old headstone I'm betting is Eugene's parents, but nothing proven.  Charles McCarthy b. 1742 died 6 JAN 1806 buried in Clouncagh Old Cemetery, Cloncagh, Limerick, Ireland which isn't too far from Mahoonagh.  This is the first CHARLES I've seen since my great-grandfather so if we follow the Irish Naming Pattern, this very well could be ... we shall see!

DNA test results are showing matches in Co Kerry and Co Tipperary.  My Dad always said he was from Tipperary, but papertrail led me to Curragh townland, Mahoonagh RC Parish, Co Limerick in 2014.

I will neve forget the feeling of enchantment and finally finding my "home" ... my ancestral home!!!

I'd love to return again one day soon to meet some of the SHANAHAN who currently live near the old home front.
