Hi Everyone, I was trying to find the town or area where my gg grandparents came from. I know they were from County Clare but don’t know of any more than that. They were Michael O’Brien (11-22-1839 to 9-28-1892) and Mary (Kane) O’Brien (1844 to 6-28-1906). He arrived in New York on August 18,1865. Any information or help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Paul Schmidt

Dear Paul:
Thank you for your post to the `Ireland Reaching Out message board and welcome. Your best place to begin is to look through the documents on the Clare Library website including the large number of parish registers that have been transcribed. O’Brien is a very common Clare name, so you will need to narrow down further. Do you have the names of Michael’s parents? Do you know if Michael married Mary Kane in Ireland or in the U.S.?
Here is the link to the Clare Library Website: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/genealog.htm
Please reply on this thread and I will try to assist you further.
Alternatively, you can also contact me at: tulla@irelandxo.com
Kind regards,

Hi Jane, Thanks for answering my post. I don’t have the names of his parents. I have a family tree that was created in 1978 by a relative, so I don’t have much information. It appears that my great grandfather was born seven years after he arrived here in the States. I would guess that means he was probably married here and not in Ireland. I guess with a common name like O’Brien it would be hard to find him. I’ll check the Parrish registers and see if I can find anything. I’ll let you know if I have any questions. Thanks so much for your help. Thanks, Paul Schmidt
