Hi, I am looking for my great grandmother Julie Feighery who was bonr in Co Clare in 1843 to James Feighery and Catherine Carty. She emigrated to Australia and married Peter Peters in Jamieson, Victoria in 1862.  I would like to find out where in Clare she came from and what ship she emigrated to Australia on.

  • Thank you very much for your research Miriam. Julia is certainly hard to find. She stated on her marriage certificate in 1862 in Victoria, Australia that she was born in Co Clare. She was only 19 years old and came to Australia alone,so maybe it is not correct.

I looked at the Baptisms for Rath, as you suggested and found on Microfilm 02474/09 p36 26 Nov 1843  a Catherina Carole Carty. I'm not sure whether she was the mother or a sponsor perhaps, as it is hard to read. Perhaps she was Julia's mother?

Julia's surname was written in  various ways on different certificates - Feeherry, Fickery, Fearey, Pherey, Feherey, Fearhey, Fearherry - so I have thought that it is most likely to be Feighery.

If you have any other suggestions of where to look, please let me know.

     Thanks again,

    Julia
