Hi all, I"m researching Patrick McGrath (b 1831 to 1835) and Susan McGrath (nee McGrath, b 1841 to 1845). In reviewing the RC marriage and baptism records I find many with residence "Norway". I've checked both transcriptions and originals and it's not a transcription error. I've also found this location on some McGrath gravestones in Kilmacduane parish. This residence doesn't appear as a townland anywhere in Clare, and I can't find it as a street in Kilrush. Does anyone know where this "Norway" is in County Clare? A google search is useless for this. Thanks in advance for your help and let me know if you'd like to collaborate on research. Other Clare names I'm researching are Curry/Corry/Carey, Downes, and Haugh.

based on a number of cross-referenced baptisms and births, e.g. Joseph Hickey born 9th February 1865 and bapt. 11th February, Norway seems to be location somewhere within Tullabrack townland, in Kilrush civil parish. Next to this townland in Kilmacduane civil parish are two additional townlands named Tullabrack East and West. I dont see the placename mentioned on the c1840 or c1900 OSI maps..

Thanks shanew147. That makes sense. I have DNA matches with ancestors throughout West Clare, but concentrated in Kilmacduane, Killard, and Moyasta parishes. I'll let you know what I find if I ever manage to solve this puzzle.

Hi all I came across Norway as well when looking up O'Dea family in Tullabrack, could not find anything in the area so even tried the country Norway but still none the wiser. Norway doesn't come up when you look at griffith's valuation or civil listings, bit frustrating but there it is. Martin
