My sister and I are excited to be visiting Ireland for the first time soon! We'll be staying in Ennis from Oct 10th to the 15th and have plans for exploring Clare (Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Bunratty Castle) as well as a visit to the Local Studies Centre and some places around East Clare associated with our McGinnis ancestors. Our great grandfather Daniel McGinnis came to Mobile, Alabama, U.S. in 1850. His sister Bridget was married to Cornelius Noonan and had several children baptized in O'Callaghan's Mills RC parish before they also emigrated. They were living in Ballymacdonnell at that time and later settled in Iowa in the U.S.

Dear Beth:
Thank you for your post and welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
You sound as if you have made a very good plan about your research with a trip to the Local Studies Centre in Ennis. You will find a lot of information there, including the transcriptions of the church records for O'Callaghan's Mills, and the graveyard transcriptions for Killuran graveyard. You will probably also note that the Noonan family were in Ballymacdonnel in the 1911 Census.
I will ask a local person about the two families for you and if I know of any relations, I will post back on this message board. In the meantime, when you get to the Local Studies Centre, you can mention me by name to Peter,and/or Brian who both know me,and if I can, I will try to meet you.
If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
All the best,
Jane

Hi Jane,
Thank you for the warm welcome! We're really looking forward to our visit to Clare. Later we'll have some time in Dublin including the Genetic Genealogy Ireland conference. The DNA testing has been interesting. We have Y-DNA results for five McGuinness men with ties to East Clare who are clearly related and probably had a common ancestor in the late 1700's. I guess it's a common Diaspora story, but there are descendants of these men in Australia, New Zealand, U.S. and one line who stayed in Clare - all far-flung distant cousins.
I'll send an email as well.
Thanks again,
Beth McGinnis Schroeder
