Gleninagh, Co. Clare
Searching for any info on my Maternal Gr-Gr-Grandparents: Patrick Fitzpatrick and Mary McNamara the parents of Eliza Fitzpatrick b. prob. Nov 11, 1829-poss. May 1827 (records in USA vary). Just made contact with another person searching for the same 2 names. He knows that his Patrick Fitzpatrick was in b. Murrooghtoohy, Gleninagh, Co. Clare. He lists a John b 1821 and an Ann as possible siblings for my Eliza. There are many persons of both surnames on the 1821 Freeholders, Tithes & Griffiths lists for there. Church records are after these dates. I am encouraged to find the name "George" McNamara which could explain Eliza's 2nd son's name, George. There is a strong contact with the surname Magner in St. Louis, MO where she married in 1853-though they could be relatives of her husband, John Collins.

I have Fitzpatricks in Murroughkilly, Gleninagh, Clare. My great great grandmother Honora Fitzpatrick was born about 1854. Her father was Thomas Fitzpatrick and her mother was Bridget Donohue. Honora had a brother Michael and he and his family can be seen in the 1901 and 1911 census in Murroughkilly.

So good to hear from another Fitzpatrick kin. Murroghkilly is next to Murrooghtoohy N. and S. Honora's Father Thomas could have been a brother or cousin to my Eliza b. Nov 11,1829. Her 6 chldren were b. in St. Louis, MO from 1854 to 1866. The last was my Grandfather, Richard Thomas. Eliza's parents were Patrick Fitzpatrick & Mary McNamara. I know that a couple with those names had a son John b. 1821 and an Ann. Eliza emigrated to the USA by Apr. 25, 1853 when she m. John Collins. I believe she may be the Eliza age 20 who sailed the "Star of the West" on May 3, 1851. Mary and her son John & daughter Ann emigrated to Haslingden, Lancashire England sometime before July 3, 1853 when John m. Sarah Hannon there. Their dau.Mary McDermott emig. to Chicago. Do you know the name of Thomas's children, especially his first son? According to Irish tradition it was usual to name him after his Father. You can reach me at josiebanks@aol.com
