I would love to contact anyone related to my ancestors William Doheny and his wife Anne Scully. They lived in Graigue Paudeen and were married in Gortnahoe in 1858.
They had about 10 children, all born in Graigue. Their sons William and Michael died in infancy. Timothy, John, Maria, Patrick, Richard, Edward and Anne emigrated to New York between 1888 and 1895. I actually have been in touch with all of their surviving descendants, and I've shared all the family stories I've been able to collect. Only one child, James Doheny, born June or July 1862, has eluded my research. I wonder if he survived to adulthood, stayed in Ireland, or emigrated like his siblings. I'm still looking for evidence either way, but that's not why I am writing to you today.
I would be so happy if someone associated with Ireland XO would give me some ideas on how I might contact my present day Doheny relatives who still live in Ireland. I know we are closely related to Father Richard Doheny who died in California in 2006 and is buried in Gortnahoe. I know Father Richard had a brother John with a pretty big family, but Richard and John are both dead now, and I don't know where John's children and grandchildren live. I wrote to the Gortnahoe parish priests last year, but didn't hear back from them or anyone with whom they may have shared my letter.
What else would you suggest I do? I would love to push my research back a little further by corresponding with one of my living Irish cousins is also doing Doheny family research, and maybe has collected inforation about William and his parents and siblings in the first half of the 19th century.
Thank you,
Catherine

Hi to Catherine . . .
Welcome to Ireland reaching Out . . . and to County Tipperary . . .
You requested search . . . lay unanswered . . . by our regular volunteers . . . for over a week now . . so . .
I thought I might have a look . . . to see if I could add any thing worthwhile . . .
I live in Co.Tipperary . . but I must confess . . . I had never ever heard of a Townsland called " Graugiepaudeen " . . new to me . .

I first searched Ancestry . . . to see if . . anyone had already published some findings on " Public " Family Tree - Ancestry
and . . . sure enough . . I found . . a Tree . . assembled by Catherine Dente . . . CGD Family Tree . . . (is that you ??)
Anyway . . . GGD . . . includes . . . William (1837) m to Anne (1838) with all of their offsprings . . .
from Timothy (1858) down to Anne (1877) . . .
TWO other trees . . also .. . appear . . . for William
a Bedore F/T . . . and . . . a Goodwin F/T . . .
So if that's not you . . . maybe you should make contact with above . . .

Mainly . . . you appear to want to ascertain . . if . . there are Doneny Family . . still living in the area . .
and I can't answer that . . . as I am not local to there . . . but . . .
I did search our National Census of 1901 . . . and 1911 . . and found . . . what I believe are your Doneny Relations . .
at that time . . . and in that location . .

Eamonn,
Thank you SOOOO much for your reply. Yes, my Ancestry.com tree is the one you found: CGD Family Tree.
I really appreciate everything you wrote in your reply above. I will follow up on every one of your ideas.
For the last two years, I have been doing intensive US and Tipperary research on my family, just finished a Family History Book that's now on Amazon, and I'd love to give a complimentary copy or two to living relatives who are still in Ireland, if they would like to see what happened to their cousins after they moved to the US. Maybe someday they will fill me in on 20th Century history of the family who stayed in Ireland.
Again, THANK YOU!
