Hello,
Could someone who knows Sacred Heart cemetery or New Gortnahoe cemetery be able to tell me if the following persons may be buried here?
James Morris ( Passed away 03/09/1920)
Alice MORRIS ( Passed on 09/10/1911).

I'd much appreciate your help, as I don't live in Ireland.

Best wishes,
Barbara Carroll

  • Hi Barbara:

Historic Graves website has two graveyards associated with Gortnahoe online at the following links:

    https://historicgraves.com/graveyard/gortnahoe-new-cemetery/ts-ghnc

    https://historicgraves.com/graveyard/gortnahoe/ts-gtnh

It is worth going through those links to see if you can find any headstone associated with the family.  If you cannot, you will note that the transcriptions and recording of the graveyards was done by the Slieveardagh Barony Historical Group and they have a link with other graveyards that they have done.  It might be worth either contacting them directly or looking through some of the nearby graveyards.

I will also contact a few volunteers to see if they can add any further input to your query.

Many thanks for your interest in Ireland Reaching Out.

    Kind regards,

    Jane

  • Hello Jane, Many thanks for your answer to my query. I did not find the gravestone of my great-great grandparents in either Scared Heart or Gorthanou New cemetery. Yet, it was very interesting to pour through these lists and their photographs. On your 3rd  link to the Slieveardagh barony, I recognized one graveyard that I had found last week on find a grave: at TS GGBL ( Ballinalacken), my great-grandmother's sister, Stasia Morris Kelly, is buried with her family. I loved the historical information on this link. I will read through it more carefully when I have a spare moment. Thank you in advance for your very kind help. Wishing you a very good day. Best regards, Barbara Carroll
