Looking for Bushgirl59 or others who can help.
my great grandfather is John Connellan who was baptised in Kilmaley parish in May 1863. His parents were Michael Connellan and Ellen Hickey. They are from the Lisroe, Kilmaley area and were married in 1858
I have been told that Michael was born around 1838 and I believe baptised in Kilmaley. ( I have neither baptism or marriage certificate )
From the information I have been given, his parents could be Thomas Connellan and Hanora O'Loughlin and he had brothers John, Patrick, Mary, Catherine and Thomas. Three of these brothers appear to have come to Victoria Australia, while my great grandfather came to South Australia much later and changed the spelling of his name to a Conelan)
bushgirl59 mentioned she had a baptism certificate for Michael and I am trying to find for sure whether this is my Michael and that they were his siblings who emigrated to Victoria.
if anyone can put me in contact with Cath Formosa ( Connellan) or who may know where to obtain a copy of that baptism certificate, I would really appreciate it.
kind Regards
Liz Pash ( Conelan)

Hi Liz:
I would advise you to check out the Clare Library website and in particular the parish registers in Kilmaley which have been voluntarily transcribed. The link is below:
I do not see a baptism reference to Michael Connellan (with spelling variations) in 1838, but you may be able to find it in other years and with the other siblings that you have mentioned.
You can order a baptism certificate through the parish office in Kilmaley, but with the Covid19 lockdown that we are in, it may be a while before office hours resume.
If you need any further help, please let me know.
All the best,
Jane

I appreciate your suggestions
I will have another look at the Kilmaley parish re rods. It was a John who suggested that Michael's parents were Thomas Connellan and Honor O'Loughlin with a baptism date of around 1838. I confess with the multiple spellings of the surname and multiple Michaels, I am having trouble keeping track. I was worried I would need more definitive details before asking Kilmaley parish for a baptism certificate and from what Bushgirl said, it seemed like she had a baptism certificate for a Michael (which I hoped I could rule in or out.)
I was thinking perhaps if I tried for Michael and Ellen Hickeys marriage certificate, it might help but I am not sure how much information they contain.( hoping at least to have fathers names and occupation if similar to the Australian ones of the times)
But at least I have some information to work with on the Connellan side. On my McAuliffe side which we think is also somewhere in the Killaloe diocese, I am having less success trying to match the Australian info to the Clare info.
thanks again
Liz

Hi Lizkin:
Yes, if Bushgirl sees this post, she might be able to tell you how or where she obtained a baptismal record with the information that you have.
As to marriage certificates, as the marriage occurred pre-1864, it will be a church record which will not give definitive information as to parents' names (although a parent may have been a witness). Check out the Clare Library to see if there is a marriage record on the register.
If you have any further questions, please let me know.
All the best,
Jane
