Hi all. I am looking for more information on my ancestors who were born in Co. Clare and emigrated to South Africa. Their names are James Joseph O'Connell, born 1836, and Mary O'Connell (O'Shea), born 1831. James' parents were James and Grace O'Connell and Mary's parents were Thomas and Bridget O'Shea. Any information would be greatly valued.

Hi Riain:
Thanks for your query.
I had a quick look in Tulla and in Clonlea parish registers but I did not find anything definite for O'Connells. In Clonlea for Mary O'Shea, I found the following entry:
Mary O'Shea baptised 3 December 1841 from Claremount. Her parents were: Thomas O'Shea and Biddy McMahon. Her baptismal sponsor was Mary O'Shea. You can access this transcription via the Clare Library at this link: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/genealogy/don_tran/bmd/baptism_records_ocallaghans_mills_parish_N_R.htm
You can also view the original page on the NLI website at this link: https://registers.nli.ie/registers/vtls000634683#page/31/mode/1up The record is at the top of the left hand side of the page and the writing is very clear.
Let me know if you need further assistance. I did not see other children mentioned for this family, so they may have emigrated.
All the best,
Jane
