I am looking for a Daniel Maloney that was supposedly born in Claire, Claire Ireland in 1855. Moved to Chautauqua, New York. He was married twice. First marriage was in Ireland to a Catherine/Katherine (unknown) and 2nd was in New York to a Elizabeth McNerney.
I have assumptions that his father was also Daniel Maloney born in Ireland 1808 (Claire or Cork) who was married in Ireland to a Mary O'Brien. Both also immigrated to the U.S.
Looking for any information or possible search direction.
Thanks in advance, Bob

Hi Bob:
Thank you for your post. You might let me have further information about Daniel. What year was he born? When did he arrive in the US? When did he get married? Who were his parents? Any other information would be very helpful and I will try to help you narrow down the parish that he came from.
I look forward to hearing.
Kind regards,
Jane

Hello Jane
I do appreciate any help you can give with Daniel Maloney.
I believe his full name is Daniel James Maloney
Date of birth - Sept. 15, 1854 (Claire ? Ireland)
Date of death - April 27, 1930 (Dunkirk, New York)
He was married wo a woman named Catherine or Katherine, last name unknown in Ireland
2nd marriage was to a Elizabeth McNerney born 1857, Dunkirk New York
Immigrated mid 1860's
This is part of my wife's family I'm researching now and this is where they end with his inofrmation.
In my research though I have the following as Daniel James Father and mother, but some assumptions are made.
Father- Daniel Maloney
Date of birth - 1808 ((plus or minus) in Cork? Ireland
Date of Death - Jan 22, 1894 Dunkirk, New York
Married to Mary O'Brien
Date of Birth - abt 1810 Ireland
Date of Death - abt 1891 Dunkirk, New York
Again thanks in advance for your efforts. Will probably be starting another message board for my side of the family McGill - Mahoney-Oflaherty
Thanks, Bob

Hi Bob:
Thanks for the additional information.
Firstly, if Daniel Maloney immigrated in the mid-1860s, and was born in 1855, his first marriage would not have taken place in Ireland as he would have been too young.
However, if he immigrated later, (and you can let me know), I do find several possible marriage records for a Daniel Moloney (note the variations on the Maloney surname: Maloney/Moloney/Molony/Malony) married to a Catherine.
What date is the second marriage? That would certainly narrow dates down.
Let me know as I may have the information for you.
All the best,
Jane

Actualy I have confused myself
Daniel was born abt the 1854/55 time frame. I have a tentive date of immigration for 1864 (date taken from NY Census). Actually Elizabeth McNerney born in Dunkirk New York in 1857, was his first wife who died in 1889. He than married Katherine in 1894 (Taken from NY Census) who was born in 1862. All the census list Ireland as her birth place except one that listed NY. So if the 1864 is the correct immigration date both marriages occured in the states.
Thanks again Bob and sorry if I led you in wrong direction,

Hello again Jane
Also one other thing. My sister-in-law believes that Daniels mothers maiden name was Gallagher, not O'Brien. I have no records to that effect but thought I would share in case you see something.
Thanks again, Bob

Hi Bob:
Thanks for the further information, and no worries about confusion. That goes with the territory of Irish genealogy research!! Have you looked for a naturalisation record for Daniel? That might indicate where he came from or give other information. The census information can be inaccurate over time. In other words, the earlier censuses when immigrants first arrived can often be more accurate, than later censuses where they have forgotten what year they arrived, what year they were born etc.
If you can get a copy of Daniel's marriage record to his second wife, you may find further information, and that may help to trace backwards. Did he have any children with his first wife?
I look forward to hearing.
All the best,
Jane

Again can't thank you enough for your time. For the 1854 Daniel the census has 1863 listed as immigration date. I'm still trying to narrow it down but there are so many Daniel Maloney's and to little info about each that it's hard to narrow down. With Elizabeth McNerney (1st wife) they had Mary Evangline, John Francis (my wife's gradfather), Daniel James, Bessie, Elizabeth Elenora and Genevive. With Katherine ? (2nd wife) they had one child Florence.
If the 1808 Daniel with Mary O'Brien is his father, they had the following. Honora, Lawrence, Mary A., John Maloney and last was the 1854 Daniel noted above.
Will keep looking and agin I do appreciate your assistance. Hope your staying safe during this pandemic. Bob
