Hello, I am researching my Great Grandfather ( James McGaw) and his family. I have traced his baptism to Killeevan records in 1831. Born to Thomas McGaw and Mary Martin they possibly lived in
Lisnagore. There is also a reference to Latroe (Lawtro). Thomas McGaw (Cooper by trade?) had 2 brothers, John and James. Thomas McGaw died soon after James baptism. I would like to find where he is buried. Thomas wife eventually remarried and became Mary Batey, I cant find where she went to although we think she was listed on a stipend notice as Widow McGaw. Grateful for any help of the family.
Also would like to find Mary Martins family, referenced to a Sergeant Robert Martin on the Ker Estate records.
Kind regards Sue

Sue,
There were a handful of Martin families recorded as tenants on the Ker Estate, it would be worth your while to have a very careful read of the following journals on that subject. The McGraw's are cited as holding the "late" Serjeant Martin's farm at Lisnagore and other references of the same McGraw family at Corlougharoe. Please note that there is no reference made to Serjeant Martin's first name. The journals are available through the Clogher Historical Society (Membership) or JSTOR (available through some Libraries for free where a reader’s ticket is held, else fee).

Maggie, many thanks for the great deal of information and for pointing me in the right direction your time and expertise is much appreciated.. I shall look at the info with interest. We believe that James McGaw along with his wife Mary went to Belfast, then moved to the north of England approx 1860's, we believe Mary died there and he re-married before moving to Scotland. His cousins from Killeevan area went to Scotland, he then joined them in the 1870's. His mother Mary (Martin) McGaw remarried and became Mary Batey, not sure when, we only have that detail from his death certificate. We don't have any further info, other than family (my grandmother and her sister) in Scotland came to County Monaghan to visit relatives occasionally. I appreciate that doesn't really give you much else to find out about . Re sergeant Martin we think his name was Robert. Anyway a little extra info just in case. Best wishes Sue
