Marriage record states father Michael Ryan. this would have been provided by Honnorah. Death record states father James Ryan, info provided by family, 55 yrs later.  Mother Annorah Kelly. Possibly arrived Fremantle West Australia aboard the ship Travencore.    Soon after arrival in Fremantle, 1853, she married William George Warner in Wonnerup, Western Australia. I have researched extensively. Her death certificate says she was born in County Clare.

  • Dear Robertamidwife:

I have checked through several church baptism registers on the Clare Library website that go back to the 1830s with a combination family name of Ryan and Kelly, but I cannot find any reference.  I do note that Ryans were located throughout County Clare as were Kellys.  It may be that the registers where your ancestors came from do not go back that far in the parish.

I would recommend that you look for parishes in County Clare where both Kelly and Ryan surnames exist and note the townlands.  As most brides and grooms pre-Famine lived within 5 miles of one another, it is very possible that Honora Kelly and Michael/James Ryan were from not only the same parish, but also the same townland.  You can do a search with the two surnames using the Clare Libatry website which lists locations of surnames not only alphabetically.

Let me know if I can assist further.  I live in County Clare and my husband's ancestors were Ryans from Tulla.

    All the best,

  • Thank you Jane.  I will certainly follow up on your advice.  It may also work for my 3rd Grt Grandfather Daniel Carroll who married Catherine George in Killaloe in 1833. Reg no 196 Witnesses Mich Carroll and Jas George. both parties resided in O'Brien's Bridge.  I am looking for their individual Baptisms which I hope will tell me their parents. (my unknown 4th Grt Grandparents).  Stay safe in these troubled times. Roberta Murphy

  • Hi Roberta:

I think that you may have better luck with Killaloe parish registers and the Carroll research.  You should check out the Killaloe parish page on the Clare Library.  I note the entry in the record and it is possible that Michael Carroll and James George were the fathers of the groom and bride.

The best of luck with your search and keep me posted as to your progress.

    All the best,
