Any information on this man or his brother: Patrick b 1795 at Ennistymon. Father: Patrick, Mother: Judith.
These brothers later joined the 21st royal North British Fusilers and went as guards on board Royal Admiral to Tasmania in December 1833.

Dear Julie:
If you would share what information that you have on the above ancestors, we may be able to assist you. I will tell you that parish registers for Ennistymon are not available prior to 1870, but there are other sources that may be of benefit.
Please share other information and we will take a look for you
All the best,
Jane

Thank you Jane. I really appreciate your reply.
Patrick's mother may have been Margt Pwdly, not Judith as for our Thomas.
Thomas: Baptism 23 April 1810 at Milltown Westmeath in Diocese of Meath.
Patrick: Baptism 17 Aug 1795 at Rathkenny Meath in Diocese of Meath.
The above info is taken from the Catholic Parish Registers, 1655-1915.
On 30 May 1826 both brothers enlisted with the 21st Royal North Fusiliers at Nugent, Southhampton, Hampshire, England. (Don't know why and when they moved to England and why they joined a Scottish Regiment.) Their occupations on enlistment were: Labourers.
They spent some time (with the Regiment) in the Albany Barracks on the Isle of Wight, other places in England then some time in Ireland before becoming guards on the prison ships.
Patrick (apparently already married to Elizabeth Aherne) embarked on 12 Sep 1832 and arrived in Van Dieman's Land in Feb 1833.
Thomas married Margaret Fitzsimmonds on 24 Aug 1832 at Gillingham, near Chatham, Kent. Thomas and his wife Margaret travelled (Thomas as Prisoner Guard) on the ship Royal Admiral to Sydney, Australia, then on to Van Diemen's Land on the Lord Lynoch. They left Depford on 13 April 1833, Dublin on 4 June 1833 arriving in Sydney on 21 Oct 1833.
I would like to know more about their parents and of their wives. Also their travel to England.
Thomas was my Great x2 grandfather. As far as I am aware they both died in Australia, after buying their discharges in 1838.
I would really appreciate it if you could enlighten me with any more details. I seem to have hit the brick wall!
Kind regards,
Julie Ware

Hi Julie:
Thanks for that information. It doesn't appear that they have any connection with Ennistymon, County Clare, but rather with Counties Meath and WestMeath.
I will ask a volunteer to look at this and see if they can shed any light on the information for you. Records are not easy to come by before 1800.
You can expect a reply in the next week or two.
