My Minogue (Bridget)/Dowdle (George) ancestors show up in the 1860 US Census (District of Columbia). They are living in Rosendale, NY after this. They came from County Clare.

Hi Irishflower23:
The surname Minogue is very common in East Clare and in the RC parish of Scariff (civil parishes of Moynoe).
If you have not already done so, you should check out the Clare County Library and look at the resources available in their genealogy section. If you input the surname "Minogue" you will see where the Minogue families were clustered in the county.. That may be a good way to start to try to narrow down the search.
If you have Bridget Minogue's parents names, please share them and we will do our best to try to assist you.

The link for Moynoe Civil parish is here: http://www.clarelibrary.ie/eolas/coclare/places/moynoe.htm
You should also check out Clonrush civil parish and Tuamgraney civil parish.
All the best,
Jane

Jane,
Based on the naming patterns of the Irish, I believe Bridget's father was Thomas. Her first son was named John after her husband George Dowdle's father. Her second son was named Thomas. It's a bit hard with all the Bridget's in our family. Her first daughter was named Bridget. It could have been George's mother or Bridget's mothers name.
I have researched back the the kings and queens of England on my father's side. My Irish heritage has me perplexed. I've been doing this for over 40 years.
Thank you for any help you can offer in advance.

That is certainly possible with the naming patterns as they were very commonly used in the 19th century--although not 100% accurate. Have you looked at the links that I gave to you previously? You might try a Griffith's Valuation search for a Thomas Minogue to see where he was located. You didn't mention any ages of Bridget and George.
If George came from County Clare, you might note that Dowdle may also be Dowdall and possibly other spelling variants.
