Hi, I'm looking for any information about my Dillon ancestors. My great grandfather Patrick (Patsy) was born in Listowel between 1854 and 1861, dates on civil records vary. His father was John. It is not clear who his mother was but I do know all of his descendants. Patsy first married Mary Flynn in London in 1884. According to his marriage certificate, he was a racehorse trainer and his father-in-law Patrick was a racehorse trainer. Patsy's father John was a "car driver." Patsy and Mary returned to Ireland and had three children who lived; all went on to become famous and successful jockey's in Edwardian England. Mary died in 1893, then Patsy remarried Margaret Flahive in 1898 and had four more living sons. They made their home in Tralee. Patsy trained some horses from Mounthawk. They moved to Epsom in England around 1906 where they all settled because of the horseracing. I would like to know who Patsy's mother was. I have found a baptism record for Patrick Dillon in 1857 (mother, Margaret Mcmahon) but have no supporting evidence to confirm that it was him. I would like to know what sort of life they had in Listowel in the nineteenth century. I have some newspaper cuttings for a P. Dillon, around the 1890's showing he participated in the races at Listowel. Any help would be appreciated.
