I am trying to find out more about my Maher ancestors, who I am told by older family members, came from Mullinahone Tipperary.
My 3 x Great grandfather was Edward Maher born 1847 in Tipperary. His father was James Maher. Edward married Mary Quirk in 1871 in Tipperary. Mary's father was Ned Quirk.
Edward and Mary had a son James born in 1872 also in Tipperary before moving to Manchester England where they had a daughter Mary Ellen in 1878. Edward died in Manchester England in 1877.
I wonder if anybody could help with information about Edwards parents and any extended family and maybe also about Mary's parents and her family and if a link to Mullinahone can be found.
On the marriage registry document of Edward and Mary it looks like it was at a Roman Catholic Chapel of Graw????, in the registrars district of Cloughjordan in the union of Borrisokane in the county of Tipperary. ( a guess at most of the names as the registrars handwriting would have qualified them as a Doctor)

Lindsey:
The subscription site Roots Ireland has an October 4 1847 baptismal record for an Edward Maher with father James Maher and mother Ellenor Hayes. The RC parish was Cloughjordan which is the parish just to the south of Borrisokane. This Edward had siblings Ellen 1843 and Michael 1846.
Here is some info on Grawn https://www.findagrave.com/cemetery/2493341/grawn-church

Hi Lindsey,
Looks like Ned Quirk's wife was Honoria, she died in 1869, the image is not on line.
You could request a copy from this site.
Welcome to Irish Genealogy - Irish GenealogyBelow is Ned Quirk's death, it states Mary Quirk daughter present at the deathall though she was married at that time. It does happen the maiden name is stated.
Next time I am in the area i need to go to Grawn Church to see if I can find any early headstones. I have made a not of the Quirk name, if I see anything I will let you know.\

Hi Margot thank you for this information it is very helpful. I would be grateful for any information you come across regarding any of my ancestors. Just as a matter of interest, because I'm being nosy, are the Quirks also your ancestors or is it the area of Ireland that you are researching? Lindsey

No you are not nosey, you never know what you find out.
I was born in the area before moving to the UK as a baby.
I have lots of cousins in the area.
When I uploaded my tree in two sites (well before DNA) I was contaced by several people in the UK, the USA and Australia.
After a long process of matching up names, links to marriages we found we were all related.
Spending time in Kildare Street, Dublin I did get the Church records.
Then the internet and sites came a long, more matches, hints and contacts from people who were pointed to me. My tree got bigger!
I do have a Quirk by marriage in my family, I havn't put her in my tree as I don't know where she went to after 1960, I will keep looking.
My Father was from Athlacca, County Limerick and I have all their family as far back to 1700's.
I did have information from both parents, I kept a book so I was lucky to have names and areas.

Wow you have done very well and it is great news that you have made contact with other relatives. I have really struggled with my Irish ancestors and this particular line of my family, I have been trying to trace down for quite a few years now. But seemed to hit a real brick wall which I could not get past. I had a breakthrough just a few weeks ago with my great great grandfather James Maher and since then by going onto this site which I had meant to for quite some time but never got round to it, I am finding more information which is really great. I have several branches of my family which come from Ireland which I have not really started on but this was the most important for me to research at this moment in time and thankfully I think I might finally be getting somewhere. Thanks again for your help. Lindsey
