Hi,

I am trying to track down the Morrissey family who lived in Killkillahara in Loughmore West Co Tipperary.

Daniel Morrissey married Catherine Fanning in 1838 in Drom Parish. She came from Lissaroon in Drom.

They had eight children:

Bridget 17 Feb 1841; Judy 21 May 1843; Honora 26 Dec 1844; Mary 28 Dec 1846; Catherine 17Apr 1849; Margaret 11 Jun 1851; Daniel 8 Aug 1853 and William 22 Mar 1856.

Catherine died after giving birth to William in 1856 and she is buried with her Fanning family in Ballycahill Graveyard.

Daniel is listed in Grifiths Valuation as living in Kilkillahara in 1856 but that is the last record I have for any of this family. Judy may have married Michael Bourke in 1861.and had one child John in 1862.

Could the family have emigrated? Seems unlikely with such a young family. Otherwise, he would most likely have remarried. But I couldn't find any records of him remarrying.

There are no Morrisseys buried in Loughmore Graveyard either and none in the 1901 or 1911 Census.

I am wondering if anyone knows anything about this family.

    I think it is very likely that the family emigrated. I looked for civil death records for Morrisseys from 1864-1901 and did not find any leads. Also, as you indicated no marriage records.

    Are you descended from one of the children? Where do you reside? I may have asked this before but have you taken a DNA test?

    Thanks for replying to my post.

    My grgrgrandfather, William Fanning, who emigrated to Australia in 1841, was a first cousin of the Catherine Fanning who married Daniel Morrissey.

    I have done a DNA test and uploaded it to My Heritage, Ancestry, FTDNA and Gedmatch but so far, no clues as to the whereabouts of this Morrissey family.

    Maybe Daniel remarried and then emigrated. I could not find any marriage records for him. It would make sense if this was the case.

    Harder to find marriage records for the husband as the marriage would have taken place in the bride's parish.

    I also thought they must have emigrated until I came across a marriage record for a Judy Morrissey. She married in Loughmore Parish Michael Burke 12 Jan 1861. 

    The witnesses to the wedding were William Fanning and William Connell. Both closely related to my Fanning family.

    Michael and Judy had one child, John in May 1862. Sponsors were Johanna Fanning and Laurence Burke.

    After this birth there are no records of other children. So, did they emigrate?

    It is all a bit of a mystery.
