Is there anyone that has a membership on Roots Ireland that could do a name search for me please?

I'm wanting to search for anyone with the surname King for all records between 1700 to 1861 in Emlaghfad, Ballymote, County Sligo.

I understand that Ballymote was called Stone Parks at some point so not sure if that would alter the search.

Thank you in advance for any help.

The Tithe listings for Emlaghfad  civil parish for 1833 showed a William King in Stoneparks

The 1858 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Emlaghfad civil parish has a Patrick King listed for Mill St. in Ballymote.

You did not indicate if you are interested in Kings who were RC or Church of Ireland. I believe there were ten C of I baptisms in the time period you listed and one RC record. Is there a specific person of interest?

  • Roger... Thank you for your reply.

My family were Church of Ireland.

William King in the Tithe listings that you mention would be my 3 x Great grandfather. His wife, my 3 x great grandmother, was called Letitia. The only marriage I can find is a Letitia Minchin at Estersnow Church in Roscommon.

Letitia was named on the Griffiths Valuation for the same property as William in the Tithe listing assuming William had passed away when it was completed.

I found a court record for Letitia. She was taken to court for non payment of wages to staff. She is marked down as widow.

I have failed to find any death record for William.

Their children that I know of are Thomas born 1837, Sarah born 1838, Mary born 1840, Anne born 1841, Antony born 1842 and Alice/Alicia ( my 2 x great grandmother) born 1844.

I have found records for some of the children but not for others. I have never found anything concrete for Alice/Alicia.

If i'm following the correct family, William's parents were Thomas and Honora. He had other siblings including Mary. Mary came to England with Letitia some time after 1858.

There is a limited amounts of information on my family but keep hoping that new records will be found and transcribed or to find other Kings that could help me connect dots.

  • Vicky,

I see you have a tree on Ancestry. You probably have, per the Marriage Bond book, William and Letitia were married in 1836.The only William King noted.

    Per RootsIreland

Thomas and Honoras' children- Mary 1790, William 1792, James 1794, Richard 1796, Elinor 1798 (she might have married a George Taite in 1844), Eliza 1800, and Thomas 1804

  • Hi Roger,

Firstly, my apologies. I had written, in my reply. that i'd posted previously but then edited it out accidently.

I hadn't looked nor realised that you was the one that helped before.

As I mentioned before, I keep hoping for updates on records being transcribed. I only have hope.

I was a full member some years ago on Roots Ireland. It had very little information so paying again for what is most likely the same information seems wasteful. I'm ever grateful to people for their kind help.

    Thanks again,

    Victoria :)

  • Roger, also, thank you for the extra info on Elinor's possible husband George Taite. I will look this up.

    Here's hoping it helps.

    Victoria :)

  • Victoria:

Roots Ireland has Emlaghfad C of I records back to 1762 but my guess is that there are gaps. According to this guide from the Anglican church, the available registers are maintained at the Representative Church Body library in Dublin.
