Migrated to/Born in USA

His parents were Roger Farrell & Elizabeth Orr of Ballymacormick, Longford. The Orr family were from nearby Torboy, Moydow while Roger was part of the extensive O'Farrell Bui group who inhabited large part of what is now South County Longford.

He was baptised in St John's Church, Church of Ireland, Parish of Templemichael, Longford in 1814, the 2nd son. He had an older brother William , born 1811 & younger sister Margaret born 1818. The family moved from Ballymacormick to Loughan, Moydow.

He married Catherine McKim from Drumcliffe Parish, Sligo on 5th June 1840 in Moydow Church, Longford. John had been educated & was holding the position of National School teacher in Moydow School at that time.

John & his wife Catherine had 4 children, 2 sons & 2 daughters. The family moved to Sligo where he took up the position of Master of the Workhouse in 1852 & continued in the post until 1866. He was then a rate collector in Sligo until 1873.

In 1873 , the whole family appear to have emigrated to New York, USA. They lived in Manhattan & both John & his wife died in 1892 - John on the 4th August & Catherine a few weeks later.

  • Hi O'Fearghail Bui

I descend from Ballymacormick Keegans, my GGGgrandfather Thomas and wife Cath (Ward) Keegan were farming there circa 1800 and their son Edward Keegan a courtmartialled soldier in the 27th Regiment of Foot was sent to Australia as a Convict in 1834. He married Joanna Burnett in Templemichael in 1832 and his female witness was Maria Farrell.

    Cheers
