My GGG Grandmother was Catherine Hogan. She was born c1844. We believe she went into the workhouse at Mitchellstown sometime after 1848 when her father died. She was in the workhouse with her sisters, Bridget (c1838-1901), Helen Mary (c1848-1881) and Honora (c1834). Her older sister Honora was shipped to Sydney Australia as an Irish Orphan under the Earl Grey Scheme in 1850. Honora married William Harvey Holmes in Sydney. They first sponsored Bridget to NSW who arrived in Sydney in 1857. They then sponsored Honora's mother (Johanna Hogan nee Londrigan) and her other two sisters Catherine and Helen who arrived in Sydney in 1859.
The Mitchelstown Poor Law Union was officially declared in 1850. The Workhouse was opened in 1852 at a cost of £7,150. It was built to house a maximum capacity of 600 inmates. The Mitchelstown Workhouse was built to accomodate people from the areas of Ballyarthur, Derryvillane, Farahy, Kilcullane, Kildorrey, Kilphelan, Marshalstown, Mitchelstown, and Templemolaga in Co. Cork, and Anglesborough, Ballylanders, Cullane, Duntryleague, Gallbally, and Riversdale in Co. Limerick.
The Mitchelstown Poor Law Union was dissolved in 1917. The buildings were destroyed and only the entrance gate now survives.

Have you added them to the Ancestor Chronicles? We can link them to the building. In this video tutorial I explain the process. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WG2FDXyo4EQ&t=3s

I don't think I have added the Hogan family to the Ancestor Chronicles but am happy for this to happen if I haven't. I have no problem with them being linked to the building. Their full story is on the Sydney Irish Orphan Website.

Pablo, I have just seen this, and its 2023, however in case you do look back. I have a brick wall with my Lonergan (Londrigan Lundrigan) ancestors from Mitchelstown. Thomas J Lonergan m. Johanna Noonan (my 2nd great-grandparents) in Mitchelstown. They had 5 children Margaret, Mary Ann, (my Grandmother), John Cornelius, Thomas, and Johanna. They arrived in Australia (not sure where) but they ended up in Melbourne). Do the family names sound familiar?
