  • This is great info, as its hard to keep the Mawhinney's straight amongst the townlands btw Castledawson & Bellaghy - LOL!

What really caught my eye though, was that Ezekiel was a witness to one of my Wallace family's weddings in 1857.

While probably not related, obviously there was enough of a connection in some regard that he signed the paperwork. If you want to look, it's William Wallace & his marriage to Sarah Somerville 7 Dec 1857 at the Parish church in Bellaghy.

William & his father James Wallace (sometimes spelled Wallox in the records) were local Potters living there in the Edenreagh/Leitrim area - before a number of the Roney's & Wallace's emigrated to Scotland btw the 1850's-1870's.

William's older sister Mary is my 2nd great grandmother who married James Roney there in Bellaghy in May 1845.

My other proven family names in the area (besides Wallace/Roney) are Marrs & Ellis. I'll pay attention to any research related to this Mawhinney family in case it helps with your Mawhinney connections.

Thanks for posting & happy hunting!
